• Travelled all over the world to study the way agriculture is practiced in those countries, and has used that knowledge to help Indian agriculture more particularly to his region. During his decade long tenure in various prestigious Hybrid seed companies, he realized the need of the Indian farmer. He found that enormous research has been done in the field of agriculture and there is need to make the scientific developments so as to reach the farmer.
  • When he decided to quit the lucrative job in Multinational and do something to the farming community, he choice was to select his region as the phrase “Charity begins at home”. The majority of the cropping area of his region was occupied with Tobacco. Therefore he decided to do some contribution to the farmers of his region.
  • Surveyed the cropping system and practices followed by the farmers in the tobacco crop which is the major commercial crop of this region. Found lot of gaps (Input gap, Information gap, Investment gap) from the stage of nursery preparation to crop harvest.
  • To fulfill the information gap, he produced an Educational Film on “Scientific Nursery Management of Tobacco”, which is first of its kind in the country that is most useful and practical in FCV tobacco cultivation. To reach each and every farmer, this educational film will be telecasted in local Cable Network during the crop season.
  • To fulfill the input and investment gap, he created a unique marketing system to supply his products (Phyton-T and GLstin) to the poor farmers on credit basis (Microfinancing) in collaboration with the banks. It is a win-win situation to all the three stakeholders ie The Farmer, Bank & Green Lifescience Technologies.
  • Have formed a self funded forum “ Krishi Jnana Vijnana Vedike” through which a number of free training programs to tobacco farmers are being conducted at taluk and village level, in collaboration with various organizations like Rotary clubs, Lions clubs, Farmers’ clubs of nationalized banks and co-operative societies, in order to communicate the scientific methods of farming at their door steps.
  • Have provided a free library facility at Mysore and Periyapatna where farmers can access to the traditional and latest information on agriculture, through magazines, journals, books, CD’s, Video’s, Photographs of diseases and deficiency symptoms etc.
  • Being a well known Agri Scientist of the country, have been organizing several free training programs for farmers on latest technologies in agriculture, pest and disease management, soil nutrition and related aspects of farming, thereby helping to the needs of the farming community.
  • A serious photographer and very good at taking scientific pictures which serve as an excellent tool in science communication. Presently, several thousand photos related to agriculture and plant pathology, which can be used in publications and presentations, are ready in the collection.
  • Presently engaged in preparation of a practical manual on “Diagnosis and management of crop diseases” which gives a means of diagnosis through world class pictorial depiction of disease symptoms and most practical methods of disease management.
  • Have saved many threatened crops after knowing the issues by media reports on own cost.
  • A free diagnosis service also available to the farmers in a state of the art Diagnostic Laboratory- Green Life Agri Solution at the centre of the Mysore city on his own fund. This service is probably first of its kind in a private sector in India.
  • Striving relentlessly to motivate and educate the tobacco farmers to diversify to other crops, mainly to vegetable crops.
  • Have served the state government as Honorary Technical Advisor to Minister of Agriculture, Govt. of Karnataka during 1999 to 2002 and have been instrumental in advising the government to introduce the concept of Raita Samparka Kendra for the benefit of farmers. Also advised the govt on the benefits of Bt crops and thereby introduction of the same in the state.
  • One of the founders of “Society for Biotechnology” which is dedicated to bring awareness on biotechnology in general public, students and teachers.
  • Doing a yeomen service to society through Lions Club, Rotary club, Banks and other social service organizations.
  • Have also given several scientific programs in Radio and Television.
  • Besides being a scientist both in the laboratory and in the field, have been trying his best to communicate science to the common man and also to the students through popular science articles on various aspects of science in English and Kannada, which are published in leading magazines and news papers like Science Reporter, Spice India, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Prajavani, Kannada Prabha, Sudha, Taranga, Vijnana Sangathi and others.
  • Vasanth also have given number of Scientific talks in various forums, conferences and seminars for the benefit of young scientists, students and general Public. Have given invited talks in various colleges, university departments and scientific forums on various aspects of agriculture, plant pathology and biotechnology.
